Long considered one of the country’s emerging young stars, Jade Melbourne has packed a lot into the start of her basketball career since going pro as a teenager.

Hailing from Traralgon in country Victoria, Melbourne excelled through the pathways and after impressing at the Centre of Excellence made her WNBL debut for Canberra in the 2020 hub season in north Queensland.

Melbourne made her Opals debut in 2021 in Jordan as Australia, coached by her Canberra coach Paul Goriss, reached the podium at the Asia Cup winning a bronze medal.

She became the latest Aussie to join the Seattle Storm when the franchise selected her with pick 33 in the 2022 draft. Melbourne made her WNBA debut in 2003 and at age 20, at season start, was the youngest player in the competition.

Now in her fourth WNBL season, Melbourne is co-captain of the Capitals.
