About She Hoops
Sami Whitcomb
Sami Whitcomb is the poster girl for persistence.
The Californian-born guard came to Australian to play in Western Australia’s State League in 2013 and dominated the competition but it wasn’t enough to secure a WNBL contract with the West Coast Waves (now Perth Lynx).
Whitcomb would eventually earn a contract and take the league by storm catching the eye of WNBA scouts where she’d be signed by Seattle.
Her meteoric rise continued and featured a WNBA championship and a World Cup silver medal in 2018 with the Opals.
Fast forward to 2023 and Whitcomb is now a two-time champion with the Storm and was a key to the Opals bronze-medal campaign at the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup on home soil in Sydney.
Whitcomb is the captain of the Perth Lynx and returns to the Storm for the 2023 WNBA season after a stint at New York Liberty under Sandy Brondello.
