Lorraine Landon
Lorraine is one of Australian sport’s greatest ever administrators.
Her place in the Sports Australia, Basketball Australia and Basketball NSW Hall of Fames highlights her mammoth contribution to basketball over five decades as a player, team manager and administrator.
As a player, Lorraine was part of dominant Bankstown teams which claimed consecutive NSW State Championship over a decade from 1968. She represented her state as well as coaching junior and senior women’s teams.
She was one of the founding pioneers who build, then ran, powerhouse NSW association Bankstown, and was appointed general manager and stadium manager in 1975.
Her contribution over 20 years to the Sydney Kings and Sydney Flames is immeasurable, she was the first female to concurrently manage both the NBL and WNBL teams.
At international level, Lorraine was team manager for the Australian women’s first Olympic campaign in Los Angeles in 1984 and again in Seoul in 1988.
A career highlight came in Sydney 2000 when Lorraine was competition manager for basketball, wheelchair basketball and rugby across both the Olympics and Paralympics.
As General Manager of Event Operations, Landon contributed to the success of the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Sydney which was the most attended women’s World Cup in basketball history.
In November 2022, she was elevated to legend status in the Basketball NSW Hall of Fame.
