As chief executive of the Local Organising Committee, Melissa King oversaw the most attended FIBA Women’s World Cup ever.

King and her team led the successful 2022 tournament in Sydney which recorded the highest number of attendance in women’s World Cup history – a record 145,519.

The gold medal match between three-time defending champion USA and China attracted 15,895 spectators.

Off the court, King oversaw legacy, junior participation and community programs making an impact which extended well beyond the tournament competition.

A former chief executive of Surf Life Saving Australia, King has held previous roles with the Sydney Opera House, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet APEC 2007 taskforce, Commonwealth Youth Games and the Governance Institute.
