She Hoops is proud to announce the selection of 32 scholarship recipients from across Australia for round two of the Leadership and Confidence program, which will once again open doors for young girls in Australia as part of a government initiative to expose participants to the diverse opportunities within sport.
Launched last year with the support of Federal Minister for Sport, the Hon Anika Wells MP, the scholarship has already seen success in its first round, where 29 participants completed the five-month program.
The selected scholarship recipients will gain valuable coaching and officiating accreditations, alongside mentorship from some of Australia’s top talents, including Opals skipper Tess Madgen, Abby Cubillo, Kristy Wallace, Steph Reid, and Nyadiew Puoch.
In addition, EQ Minds will lead five online sessions covering a range of topics from developing a high-performance mindset to mastering mindfulness. This holistic approach aims to equip young leaders with the skills and confidence needed both on and off the court.
Nidhi Baligar, a scholarship recipient from Victoria, has been playing basketball for over five years and recently ventured into coaching and refereeing. She was thrilled to learn she was one of the selected scholarship recipients.
“I was encouraged to apply for this scholarship because it sounded like a great opportunity to advance my skills and leadership knowledge in sport, by learning from professional players with years of experience and I hope to gain insight on what it's like to be a leader within a sport, whether it's in coaching, playing, or administrating.
“I think that this program is such an innovative and powerful initiative, and I think that all 32 of us are very fortunate to have been selected. There are so many opportunities that are now open to us, and we have a guided process for us to grow as members of the basketball community,” she added.
The program kicks off this month and will conclude in December with a three-day immersive camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
